Swiss chard

Swiss chard sprouting in the greenhouse

Although Spring may only just be arriving, work in the greenhouse has been going on for some time. The Swiss chard is sprouting nicely. The onions and leeks are well on their way and the peppers are popping up!

Jake has been busy renovating a building to house a walk-in cold room and a wash station.

Farmer Jake has also had the horses out several times ploughing and disc harrowing the fields. The peas should be planted this week.

The first batch of chicks has arrived and are safely in their indoor heated pen. They will be out on fresh grass soon.

The ducks continue to wander the entire farm. Their extremely tasty eggs are available in very limited quantity at the Halifax Forum Market every Saturday.

We still have lots of very tasty pork sausages as well as chops and ground pork etc. Meet Sandra and Bruce at the Halifax Forum Farmers’ Market every Saturday from 8.00 am to 1.00 pm. Or you can always order on line at:

Fresh chicken will be available in mid-June.

And that is the news from “Between the rows”
